NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City man was arrested Saturday on allegations he choked a woman to unconsciousness, raped her when she woke up and robbed her of her credit and debit cards just minutes before the new year.

City police said they charged Elijah Kelly, 23, with rape, robbery, strangulation and other crimes in connection with the attack at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday in midtown Manhattan. It wasn’t immediately clear if Kelly has a lawyer who could respond to the allegations.

Police said Kelly knocked on the door of a 27-year-old woman and told her he was delivering a package. When she opened the door, Kelly allegedly pushed his way inside, choked her until she passed out, raped her when she regained consciousness and forced her to give him her credit and debit cards and PIN numbers, police said.

The woman called 911 and was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released.

Police said a security camera recorded images of Kelly before and after the attack.
