BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man charged with fatally stabbing his roommate over the weekend during an altercation was held without bail after pleading not guilty to murder at his arraignment Monday.
Robert Joseph Savignano, 25, is charged in the death Saturday of James Jennette, 35, in the Brockton home they shared, according to a statement from the Plymouth district attorney’s office.
Police responded to the home after getting multiple 911 calls at about 8:30 p.m., authorities said.
Jennette was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton where he was pronounced dead.
Savignano’s attorney, Robert Griffin, told The Boston Globe that witnesses told police that Jennette had entered Savignano’s room and attacked him first because he “didn’t think my client was carrying his share of the weight of the household.”
Savignano is due back in court Feb. 9.
