ATLANTA — Washington running back Antonio Gibson (shin) and defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis (knee) were officially active for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons after previously being listed as questionable.
Coach Ron Rivera said the team was “pretty confident” Gibson would suit up, though he missed practice Thursday with a shin injury. Rivera said Gibson suffered the injury in last week’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, telling reporters the running back was kicked during the game.
Ioannidis, meanwhile, returns after missing a week. The defensive lineman hurt his knee in Week 2’s win over the New York Giants, but returned to practice this week.
Both additions should be a boost for Washington, looking to get to .500 following a 1-2 start. Wide receiver Curtis Samuel (groin) will also make his season debut as the team activated him off injured reserve Friday. Samuel missed the first three games of the year.
With Gibson, Ioannidis and Samuel active for Washington, here’s who inactive for the Burgundy and Gold against the Falcons: defensive end Shaka Toney, tight end Sammis Reyes, offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles, cornerback Benajmin St-Juste (concussion) and wide receiver Dax Milne.
