LANDOVER — Washington quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick exited Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a right hip injury and is questionable to return.

With 8:40 left in the second quarter, Fitzpatrick was crushed on a hit by Chargers edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu — remaining on the ground for several minutes.

After getting hit, Fitzpatrick tried to get up before stumbling back the FedEx Field grass. Several linemen took knees to pray for the quarterback, who was evaluated by a trainer.

After roughly five minutes, Fitzpatrick walked off with a trainer and went straight back to the locker room to be further evaluated. Backup Taylor Heinicke — who started Washington’s playoff game last year against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — replaced him.

Washington brought Fitzpatrick in on a one-year, $10 million deal this offseason in an effort to lift the offense.

On Sunday, Fitzpatrick had completed 3 of 6 passes for 13 yards before the injury.
