If the imprisonment and subsequent hard-fought release of WNBA star Brittney Griner teaches us anything, it is that Russia should become a country that is off-limits to Americans.

Even if every citizen of our country who visits Russia were never to bring drugs into that country, a rogue nation piloted by a ruthless and murderous dictator can find the means to take hostages by trumping up charges of spying. The likelihood of Vladimir Putin doing such a thing has increased given the high return he achieved for freeing Ms. Griner, and in consideration of the extent to which we have honorably armed Ukraine, the country he is seeking to pummel into submission.

Travel to North Korea is generally banned because Americans are not safe there. The same should apply to Russia.
