LANDOVER — Washington defensive end Montez Sweat will miss Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, days after his brother was shot and killed in Richmond. Sweat was part of the team’s inactives that were released 90 minutes before kickoff.
Sweat previously was listed as questionable, though did not practice all week after finding his brother, Anthony, was murdered on Tuesday. The death was the latest tragedy to hit Washington’s locker room as safety Deshazor Everett was involved in a fatal car accident late last month in which a female passenger died.
Besides Sweat, the team is also down other starters in running back Antonio Gibson and guard Ereck Flowers — who were placed on the COVID-19 reserve list on Friday. Washington also has a new punter in Ryan Winslow with Tress Way also out with the virus.
Here’s who was inactive for Washington on Sunday:
• Defensive end James Smith-Williams (illness)
• Cornerback William Jackson III (calf)
• Wide receiver Curtis Samuel (hamstring)
• Linebacker Milo Eifler
• Quarterback Garrett Gilbert
• Kicker Brian Johnson
