My political awakening began with the presidential contest between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy, during which Republicans were accused of trying to eliminate Social Security. Sixty-two years and six Republican administrations later, Social Security remains. Yet that doesn’t stop Democrats from asserting, without evidence, that Republicans are trying to eliminate it (“Biden tells Floridians that Republicans want to cancel their Social Security and Medicare,” Web, Nov. 1).

Isn’t it time for Democrats to update their tired old playbook, and while they’re at it, maybe their tired old president, too?
