In a recent column for Politico Magazine, founding editor John F. Harris writes: “It is inconceivable to imagine any Democratic politician in modern times having such a grip on supporters that he or she would remain an unchallenged leader after losing an election or being under multiple simultaneous criminal investigations. … What will it take to change the fundamentals?”

Rarely have I read a piece that so clearly illustrates the bankruptcy that is today’s Democratic Party. Vice President Kamala Harris, one of the top players in the Democratic power structure, is stunned that Jan. 6 and the reversal of Roe v. Wade did not change “the fundamentals” — without for a moment recognizing that both events reflect our nation’s true fundamentals.

The response to the events of Jan. 6, 2021, was an unprecedented assault upon the fairness Americans expect of our legislative and judicial investigations, while the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade, which returned the abortion decision to the people in each state, is fundamental to the concept of states’ rights. Moreover, polls have found repeatedly that while large segments of our population are pro-choice, even larger segments are either anti-abortion or support tight restrictions on abortion.

Ms. Harris’ views appear completely out of touch with reality, and when extended to the Democratic Party as a whole, they provide straightforward evidence of why the political left is about to receive a severe reckoning come Nov. 8.
