OPINION:
Every sovereign nation has the right to create a safe and secure border, and to control access into it through that border (“’All we want is to be safe’: Migrants push north after end of Title 42,” web, May 13).
Though America is a nation built by immigrants, we can barely support the needs of our own citizens, particularly as we’re wasting billions of dollars in military aid to help Ukraine start World War III with Russia.
How can we afford to help the thousands of illegal immigrants who are arriving here daily?
How can we be certain these illegal immigrants are not sick with communicable diseases, which may adversely impact our own citizens and agriculture?
How many of these immigrants are criminals and/or terrorists who intend to do us harm once they are in the U.S.?
How many of them, desperate enough to leave their home countries and make the dangerous trek here, will perish on the way because of the Biden administration’s do-nothing approach to this crisis?
These are questions the Biden administration should be answering. Instead, it’s immaturely blaming Donald Trump for everything bad that has happened to our nation since President Biden took office. We need to develop a clear-cut, civilized pathway to legal immigration that helps America — and we need to better regulate who enters this country, period. The future of our nation is at stake.
