OPINION:
The Biden White House reached a milestone this week when President Biden achieved the lowest approval rating of any U.S. commander in chief in 80 years.
According to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, Mr. Biden’s approval rating has dropped to an all-time low of 36%. The same poll found that just 32% of the country believes Mr. Biden has the mental strength to continue serving as president. Most Democratic voters have also said they do not want Mr. Biden to seek a second term.
Despite all the evidence to the contrary, the Democratic National Committee is all-in for Mr. Biden. To protect one of the most vulnerable incumbents in history, the DNC has said it will support Mr. Biden’s reelection bid and has no plans to sponsor primary debates. Their preemptive decision to cut voters out of the process has received bipartisan scrutiny, especially as challenger Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continues to rise in the polls.
But the DNC’s mission is clear: Mr. Biden will remain its Trojan horse in an effort to retain the White House.
Whether it’s among general election voters, independents, or support within their respective parties, the dichotomy between Mr. Biden and former President Donald Trump could not be clearer. One declared candidate for 2024 is collapsing in the polls. The other is surging and has been since January. The candidate that is surging is Mr. Trump, and he’s going to be the GOP nominee for president.
The most recent Morning Consult survey of likely GOP primary voters showed that Mr. Trump had an overwhelming lead on the field with 60% of support and a 41-point advantage over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has yet to announce he’s entering the race.
No other declared challenger besides Mr. DeSantis has even received double-digit support. Mr. Trump is the overwhelming choice of Republican primary voters. They trust Mr. Trump, know that he will fight for them, and that he has unfinished business for the American people.
Mr. Trump has earned the support of our party, which raises the question: If the DNC won’t force Mr. Biden to defend his record in primary debates, then why is our side entertaining primary debates in a noncompetitive field?
One thing the Democrats do well is stay unified, especially with the White House up for grabs. Their unification project during the 2020 Democratic primary season cleared the path for Mr. Biden to easily become the party’s nominee. As you may recall, in the span of just a few days, Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg and Kamala Harris all dropped out of the 2020 primary and endorsed Mr. Biden.
Not much has changed. With the 2024 presidential election now in focus, the DNC is in lockstep in support of Mr. Biden. Mr. Biden has never been more unpopular with the American people, including Democrats, yet he has the full support of the DNC. Mr. Trump is surging in the GOP polls, yet we’re told there will be GOP primary debates.
I believe it is the right of the voters to hear all platforms and ideas, but I think most of us can agree that the math doesn’t add up for another Republican challenger in 2024. Immediately unifying around Mr. Trump is not just best for the party; it is what’s best for the country.
The American people have experienced untold amounts of suffering under the Biden regime. Mr. Biden’s domestic economic agenda has been a failure of epic proportions. Inflation is raging, banks are failing, and the repeal of Title 42 is creating a biblical crisis at our southern border. The world is on the brink of even more geopolitical conflict. GOP primary voters, independents and many Black Americans know that Mr. Trump is the solution to the chaos brought upon us by the Biden administration.
