OPINION:
California again demonstrates a clear example of how Democratic politicians will skirt the law, take advantage of taxpayers (who ultimately pay the price for their ill-conceived schemes) and/or use illogical reasoning to support their agenda. It’s an agenda that ultimately puts all Americans at risk.
At least four Democratic candidates for governor of the Golden State — Xavier Becerra, Matt Mahan, Katie Porter and Tom Steyer — oppose federal statutes requiring that CDL drivers of box trucks and 18-wheelers be able to read English (“California’s Democratic candidates for governor reject ‘reckless’ English tests for truckers,” Web, April 23).
They go so far as to brand a basic language skill requirement as “picking on people because of the color of their skin.” Mr. Becerra has called it “a reckless policy.” Mr. Steyer has said “it promotes racial profiling.”
The fallacies here are so obvious as to not warrant further comment. Yet dumbed-down Californians will vote for these chaps.
All these candidates are practicing their highly refined art of illogical reasoning in the face of reality, but any reasonable and educated person can see through this charade.
California places all of its more than 29 million drivers — more drivers than the entire population of any other state — at risk when its CDL drivers delay in making a decision or fail to maneuver an 80,000-pound rig at 70 miles per hour because he or she cannot read an English traffic sign. Cars weigh only about 3,500 pounds.
As with many of today’s Democratic politicians, California politicians fail to comprehend their main duties of creating safe, secure environments for their residents.
