OPINION:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in an interview on “This Week” on ABC, said — well, you just have to read it because there’s no easy way to sum up what she said. She doesn’t even know. Welcome to the show. Lights, camera, action!
Host Jon Karl asked Ocasio-Cortez to weigh in on the nutjob darlings of the Democratic Socialists of America who are running for office, and winning, and don’t think America should celebrate Thanksgiving (Francesca Hong).
And she said: “I have a local city councilman that has this, ah, ah, saying that ‘Woke 1 was crazy,’” — and then she started cracking up. ‘Cause, you know, woke people who demand all of America go woke and fall into Marxist line are hilarious. Then she added, “And I think that what’s important is that we have to assess what a candidate is saying now.”
Karl cut her off a little bit to ask, “Didn’t it go a little too far with some of those positions? I mean, you briefly supported the idea of defunding the police.”
And she said, “ Well, you know, I think, I think that during this time and during — especially during COVID, there was a huge opening of the Overton window. We were shut down, there was some of the highest unemployment rates that we have seen because of those shutdowns, and I think that the doors were really opened in trying to entertain any and every policy that was going to get us to a better place.
‘Cause the turmoil government created by forcing Americans to give up all their God-given rights and freedoms, and then play the leftist game of “Do as I demand, not as I do” for more than two years was the path to “a better place” — one where police weren’t needed.
And then she said, “And I actually think that the discussions that had — that were had in that time, were quite fruitful.”
Quite.
And then she said, “I think that we talk about crime today, it’s fundamentally different than the way we talked about crime in bringing crime down, right? And I think that we all share the goals of having as low a crime rate as possible.”
What does that even mean?
Kamala Harris’ speechwriters must be doing a bit of moonlighting.
And then she said — by way of distracting from the fact she was asked to explain her own defund the police beliefs and not the defund the police beliefs of DSA candidates — this: “I think that, you know, during lockdown, of course, rhetoric in that time is not rhetoric that we would use today, and I’m grateful that these candidates have the opportunity to present who they are to their electorate and what they’re campaigning on in this moment.”
Great. Thanks. Another terrific performance by the award-winning AOC.
If members of the media would stop licking the boots of the cloaked communists they bring on TV to interview, America wouldn’t have what President Trump himself calls out as a communist peril in the country.
Democrats, for a very long time, have been deceiving their voting bases by pretending they are Democrats and not Marxists — that they love America and simply have at heart the best intentions for American citizens. They use words like “equity” and “fair” and “tolerance” and “affordable” to sell their ideas as nice and compassionate and all that’s bubbly and good in the world. But their definition of “fair” is taking from those who have to give to those who have not — and especially to those who refuse to work. Their definition of “equity” is making sure the hard work of the producers, creators and entrepreneurial risk-takers is split up and distributed among the lazy, do-nothings who spend government checks on marijuana and junk food and CBD gummies. Their idea of “tolerance” is forcing sane people to recognize and treat the insane and perverted people as sane — like the men who pretend to be women so they can leer at little girls in changing rooms. Their definition of “affordable” is — well, whatever they say at the time that justifies taking tax dollars from those who work to give to those who don’t want to work.
And now, apparently, thanks to Ocasio-Cortez’s clarifications and explanations, their definition of “defund the police” is when “the doors” are “really opened in trying to entertain any and every policy that” is “going to get us to a better place.”
And that’s really, in the end, “fruitful.” Quite.
