Massachusetts was once known as the cradle of liberty for its role in the American Revolution. Now, it has forsaken the cradle and turned the womb into a death chamber.
Thanks to legislation signed by Gov. Maura Healey, a Democrat, residents can kill unborn children up to the moment of birth. They call it late-term abortion. Infanticide is a more accurate description.
Ms. Healey signed the bill into law in the midst of an exuberant crowd. From the smiles and laughter, you would think that they were celebrating the birth of a baby, instead of the coming death of thousands of children in the Bay State.
Late-term abortion/infanticide is a barbaric practice worthy of a nation that has no regard for human life, such as North Korea. The procedure involves either poisoning the baby in the womb or crushing its skull and then extracting the dismembered parts.
“Legalizing elective abortion up to birth on healthy mothers and healthy, pain-capable unborn children is not about protecting the doctor-patient relationship,” said Massachusetts Citizens for Life President Myrna Maloney Flynn. “It is about abortionists normalizing the deaths of fully-developed infants and pressuring vulnerable women to permit their unborn children to die in heinous acts of violence.”
Massachusetts isn’t the only state to allow such savagery. Nine states have similar laws. With one exception, all are deep-blue states which profess undying devotion to the welfare of women and children — the ones they haven’t killed.
Besides morality, which should be the paramount consideration, there are very practical reasons for encouraging the birth of children and not their demise.
America is in the midst of a birth dearth.
A nation’s fertility rate is the number of children the average woman will have in her lifetime. A fertility rate of 2.1 is needed to replace the current population. In 1964, our fertility rate was 3.1 to 3.2. In 2025, the U.S. fertility rate was 1.58, the lowest on record and well below replacement. Population decline will soon set in.
We are a nation with a growing elderly population that requires care, and fewer and fewer children to one day care for them.
Death through abortion signals the death of a society. If Gov. Healey and company truly understood the consequences of abortion and the decline of procreation, instead of cheering, they would be crying.
