OPINION:
For members of the political left, slogans are divorced from reality. They are always telling us that their goal is to fight fascism. antifa stands for “anti-fascism,” which they demonstrate by behaving like Brownshirts.
On Aug. 19, Melissa Farris, a 41-year-old white woman from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, was charged with defacing the World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington.
If convicted, Ms. Farris – who seems to be a typical AWFUL (Affluent White Female Urban Liberal) — faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison on each of two felony counts. U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro has indicated that she intends to prosecute the case vigorously.
Good.
The monument, which was defaced, honors the 16 million Americans who fought in World War II, a conflict in which more than 400,000 heroes died. They include those who stormed the beaches in Normandy, landed on nameless Pacific islands on the way to Tokyo, fought in the skies above Europe and took part in some of history’s greatest naval engagements.
The average age of an American who fought in World War II was 26. Many were 18 and 19. They came from farms and factories, offices and schools. They left loving families and many of them never returned.
If not for their sacrifice, Germany and Japan would have conquered the world, ushering in what British Prime Minister Winston Churchill called a “new dark age made worse by the lights of perverted science.” Many who are alive today owe their existence to the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation.
The act of which Ms. Farris is charged rises above mere vandalism. It borders on sacrilege. The memory of those heroic young men is sacred to our nation.
Groups such as the Democratic Socialists of America and Antifa aren’t fighting fascism. They are fascism.
The National Socialists came to power in Germany, promising to fight the system, bring prosperity to ordinary Germans, and end exploitation. What they brought was a world war that almost destroyed their nation.
It should be remembered that the Nazis came to power through the democratic process. Warning to Americans: Be careful what you vote for.
In a despicable act of vandalism, we can see the left’s true intentions and the new dark age where it wants to take America.
