Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug was arrested Friday in Texas on charges of driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession and unlawful possession of a firearm, authorities said.

The rapper, whose legal name is Xavier Darnell Landum, was arrested by the Allen Police Department on Friday and booked into the Collin County Jail, according to FOX 4. The jail listed the charges as DWI, possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Allen police confirmed the arrest but did not immediately disclose details about the circumstances that led to it, citing an active investigation, according to CBS News Texas.

The arrest coincided with a scheduled appearance by BigXthaPlug at the Country Rising Festival. The rapper did not perform, with festival organizers attributing his absence to a “personal emergency,” according to FOX 4. The source report said details about what led to his arrest had not been disclosed.

Friday’s arrest came exactly one year after Mr. Landum was arrested in Dallas on marijuana and firearm charges.

In that Aug. 21, 2025, case, police approached Mr. Landum’s Dodge Ram TRX after noticing that the pickup was missing its front license plate, according to an arrest affidavit reported by WFAA. Police were responding to a car club gathering in southeast Dallas at the time.

An officer asked Mr. Landum whether there were firearms in the vehicle, and he acknowledged that he had a gun under the armrest, according to the affidavit. Police subsequently reported finding two firearms and about 3.4 grams of suspected marijuana.

The firearm charge carried additional circumstances. Texas generally permits eligible adults to carry handguns without a license, but the affidavit said a database check alerted the officer that the Arlington Police Department had listed Mr. Landum as a documented gang member. That designation formed the basis for the misdemeanor unlawful-firearm-possession charge, WFAA reported.

Mr. Landum was booked on misdemeanor charges of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $2,500 on each count, and he was released after posting bail, according to WFAA.

The 2025 arrest occurred as Mr. Landum was promoting his album “I Hope You’re Happy,” which features collaborations with country artists including Darius Rucker, Luke Combs, Shaboozey and Jelly Roll. The attached FOX 4 report notes that the arrest fell on the same date as the album’s release.

Mr. Landum had also been arrested in Arlington in February 2025 on a marijuana possession charge. That case was later dismissed, according to FOX 4.

BigXthaPlug has emerged as one of Dallas’ most prominent rappers in recent years. The Dallas native began his music career after writing songs while incarcerated, including material that led to his breakout single “Texas.” He later launched his own record label.

FOX 4 reported that he has more than 19 million monthly listeners on Spotify and that “Mmhmm,” his most-streamed song on the platform, has accumulated more than 548 million streams.
