Secret Service officials placed on administrative leave over potential misconduct

Three U.S. Secret Service officials have been placed on administrative leave amid an ongoing investigation into potential misconduct, an agency spokesperson confirmed to The Washington Times.

The Office of Professional Responsibility is investigating the non-law enforcement personnel.

“The U.S. Secret Service is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in fulfilling our zero-fail mission of protecting the President and other high-level government officials,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Our critical work demands that our workforce maintain an unwavering commitment to duty, honesty, and courage in all aspects of their jobs. We will continue to pursue the level of excellence that is worthy of the mission which has been entrusted to us by the American people.”

This latest development follows an internal investigation that placed a Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President J.D. Vance’s protective detail on administrative leave in July over alleged security leaks.

MS Now published a report detailing complaints from security detail members who felt overwhelmed by frequent, last-minute personal travel requests from the vice president and his family. The story noted a planned trip to fly Mr. Vance’s young son to a golf lesson aboard a military helicopter, which was later canceled because of severe weather.

The publication of sensitive scheduling and operational information triggered an immediate review by Secret Service and White House officials.

Also in July, President Trump left Air Force One at the urging of the Secret Service and the military while departing from a summit in Turkey due to potential threats linked to Iran.

Mr. Trump was secretly moved off Air Force One using a catering truck, and boarded a different military aircraft for the flight home. Some staff, security personnel and journalists stayed on the original Air Force One, which departed as a decoy.

In April, an armed man rushed past and breached a Secret Service security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
