Minneapolis police reportedly raided the apartment of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s son and arrested his roommate on a weapons charge.
Law enforcement sources told Alpha News, a Minnesota-based conservative outlet, that a search warrant was conducted Tuesday night, and guns and ammunition were recovered from the scene.
The Minneapolis Police Department arrested Abdulrahman Abdi, 22, who was then booked into the Hennepin County Jail on the weapons charge, Alpha News reported.
The arrest came after an officer conducted a traffic stop, and the driver — later identified as Mr. Abdi — was cited for having a canceled license and no proof of insurance and was released at the scene.
After the vehicle was taken into police possession, a firearm was recovered from it.
Officers later tracked the driver, Mr. Abdi, to his apartment, where he was arrested without incident.
The Washington Times has reached out to the police department for comment.
The Daily Mail reported that Mr. Abdi was previously convicted 10 times, mostly of misdemeanors including speeding, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, using a cellphone while driving and failing to show proof of insurance.
Mr. Abdi’s latest arrest comes amid tension between Ms. Omar and law enforcement.
In December, she said her son Adnan was the subject of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement traffic stop, where federal agents pulled him over and asked him to prove his citizenship.
ICE’s former acting director, Todd Lyons, said at the time that the agency has “absolutely zero record” of its officers or agents pulling over her son, accusing her of trying to “unfairly demonize our law enforcement officers.”
Ms. Omar has also been a frequent target of Trump administration rhetoric about Minnesota’s Somali community amid a welfare-fraud investigation.
