Jake Reiner, the eldest son of film director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, said the eight months since his parents were found fatally stabbed in their Los Angeles home have felt like “a living nightmare.”
Speaking to ABC7 Los Angeles in his first interview since the killings, Mr. Reiner, 34, described the months since his parents were killed on Dec. 14, 2025, as feeling like “eight years” and “eight minutes” simultaneously.
His younger brother, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested hours after the killings and charged with two counts of murder.
Mr. Reiner said he has not spoken with his younger brother and declined to say whether he wants to. He has not attended any of his brother’s court hearings, though he testified before the grand jury that indicted him.
He described his grief as sometimes manifesting into anger over not having had “a say in what happened.”
Mr. Reiner declined to comment on Nick’s attempts to access money from the family trust to pay for his legal defense.
He said he is now focused on following his parents’ footsteps by supporting the Children’s Institute while navigating his own grief. The Children’s Institute provides education and support services to 30,000 children and families in the Los Angeles area. It has created the Michele and Rob Reiner Champion for Change Award to honor the couple, who were children’s advocates.
