OPINION:
To quote the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”
Relics of abandoned civilizations are direct evidence of their socioeconomic bankruptcy. Look to Cambodia, the Yucatan and areas of the American southwest, as well as to islands in the South Pacific. They are monuments to civilizations that lost their purpose and were finally abandoned.
This shows a universal phenomenon: Societies without means collapse.
Present-day socialists are selling suicide snake oil in the guise of “free stuff.” Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vermont independent, is the leading salesman.
He should be front and center when the effects come due so that he can see the suffering he’s produced. He should live so long.
Soft power could embrace his concepts and then be consumed if they don’t awaken in time. The ultimate irony would be if New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani sponsored free tours to Cambodia’s Angkor Wat.
