OPINION:
We have a board of peace for Gaza and memorandums of understanding for both the U.S. and Iran and for Israel and Lebanon. Yet there is fighting on all fronts. We obviously have a serious disconnect.
The board of peace meets and plans, but the Gaza war continues. Hamas will not give up its weapons. It expects Israel to withdraw totally while it regroups and can launch another Oct. 7, 2023, then another, until the Jews are “driven into the sea,” as is Hamas’ goal.
Israel is hunting down the Palestinians who ravaged Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Every one of them will be killed or captured to face trial with the possibility of getting the death penalty. Israel wants Gaza to be demilitarized and Hamas and Islamic Jihad disbanded.
America and Iran signed an MOU. They did not include Israel, giving Iran the excuse to violate its agreement as Israel and Hezbollah exchange fire.
Israel, Lebanon and America signed another MOU. The miracle of Israel and Lebanon agreeing that Hezbollah must go and that they will have peace stunned the world. Again, however, the flaw was the missing player. Iran, which occupies Lebanon with their proxy Hezbollah, was not happy.
Obviously, America and Israel should have brought down the ayatollahs’ regime when they had it on the ropes. Israel was ready, but President Trump blew hot and cold.
Iran hijacked the Strait of Hormuz. Does Mr. Trump believe that he must free up the shipping backlog first? The Europeans aren’t willing to help. Is he worried about the midterm elections while short-sighted Americans would rather kick the can down the road?
Or does he know that Iran will eventually go too far for him to ignore, as it surely will?
