Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and members of his family were home during a break-in at their residence in Tredyffrin Township, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, authorities said.
They were not harmed and the suspects fled the scene before police officers arrived, Capt. Tyler Moyer of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department told reporters.
“They were home, and fortunately, as you know, with any situation like this, our main concern is that the residents of that home at the time were unharmed, which they were,” Mr. Moyer said. “They were fine afterwards, obviously unsettled, as anyone would be.”
The break-in occurred around 5 a.m. on Saturday morning. Authorities noted that they are looking for two suspects who may have arrived on the scene in a white SUV. One of the individuals entered the Barkleys’ home.
“We are incredibly grateful that the Barkley family was not injured during this incident. We are asking the public to help us identify those responsible by checking any home security cameras for suspicious activity in the area around 5:00 a.m.,” the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
Barkley is the latest prominent athlete targeted by burglars. The trend has intensified in recent years, as stars like Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu have all reported break-ins over the last two years.
Federal prosecutors charged seven men, who they said belonged to a South American theft group, in connection with some of the burglaries in February.
Authorities said they tied the suspects to $2 million in stolen goods from homes belonging to Kelce, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and then-Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis.
