A friendly neighborhood Spider-Man was seen on an intersection camera in Arkansas helping a man in a wheelchair get across a multilane crosswalk.
The Jonesboro Police Department posted video on social media Tuesday showing the man in the wheelchair trying to move across the road while traffic stopped.
The Spider-Man-garbed man is seen getting out of his red Jeep, wheeling the chair the rest of the way and dashing back to get in his car after the light changed.
“Some people say Cops are heroes, but even we need a little helping hand. Earlier today, a citizen needing a little assistance got it in the form of a true superhero. We were able to spot this little web of kindness on our intersection cameras. Thank you, sir, for helping this gentleman reach his destination safely,” the police department wrote in the caption for the video.
The good Samaritan, Christopher Hellenthal, 20, told Little Rock’s KLRT-TV, “I saw him there, and I knew he was not going to make it across in time. So, I just hurried out there and tried to push him across. I would have done it with or without the suit. I just really thought it was really funny and ironic that I would just happen to be wearing the suit, driving a red Jeep right there.”
Angie Walker, general manager of Jonesboro’s Ultimate Air Trampoline Park, said in the comments on the police department’s post that Mr. Hellenthal is one of her employees and that he happened to be wearing his superhero spandex because “we had superhero day at Ultimate Air for our toddlers and he had just left. This is not AI or anything planned. He just is a great person and saw somebody struggling that needed help.”
Packy Magel, another manager at the air trampoline facility, told The Associated Press that the good deed was “very much like him to do something like that and very much like him to be still in costume.”
The man in the wheelchair has not been publicly identified.
