It is past time for Washington to work with Taiwan on that island nation’s own declaration of independence. And Taiwan could (and should) model their declaration after ours.

Taiwan has been separate from communist China since 1949. It is free and has a representative democratic form of government that mimics our own.

Communist China could still call itself China. The island of Formosa should be officially renamed Taiwan and granted its own nation state status to be recognized by the United States and the United Nations.

Of course, communist China will be very upset and will not easily let go of the idea that Taiwan belongs to it. But Great Britain was very upset over the American Revolution and did not easily let us go either.

France eventually backed the United States. We ought to do the same and back Taiwan. We must demand that China let the people of Taiwan go.
