Tuberville trashes GOP talking points
Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville was so dismayed by the GOP’s new talking points trying to explain the Senate’s failure to pass an election integrity bill that he immediately binned them.
“I just wadded them up and threw them in the trash. I don’t work for the Senate. I work for the American people and the people of Alabama, and I am going to do what is best for them,” Mr. Tuberville told Seen, Heard & Whispered during an interview Wednesday on One America News.
The talking points from GOP leaders urged senators to try to deflect questions about the election legislation — the SAVE America Act — by instead talking about the economy.
“When 80% to 90% of the people across the country say they want this bill passed, I think we should pass it. I don’t think there is any doubt, but we have people that don’t like President Trump or they got big egos,” said Mr. Tuberville, who is the Republican gubernatorial nominee in Alabama.
Mr. Trump has called on the Senate to remain in session during August to try to force action on the election integrity bill, which would impose new citizenship and ID checks on voters in federal elections.
Republican Senate leaders, though, say the legislation cannot overcome a Democratic filibuster and that canceling the August vacation won’t change that math.
That was the gist of the talking points, too.
“All the talking points they want to send to me, all I want to do is tell them back, ’Let’s not try to survive; let’s try to win,’” Mr. Tuberville said.
Scott Presler’s Early Vote Action is cross-checking voter rolls
Pennsylvania has a voter list. Scott Presler is checking it twice.
Mr. Presler, a conservative activist who leads Early Vote Action, said he has dozens of people in the Keystone State working to register Republican voters.
They’re also hoping to scour the state’s current rolls looking for people who don’t belong.
His group has obtained a list of people who begged off jury duty in Chester County, outside Philadelphia, saying they weren’t citizens.
“Now I am not saying those people are registered to vote, but what we are doing is cross-referencing the nonjuror list with the voter rolls, and wouldn’t you know it we are finding actively registered noncitizens on the voter rolls in Pennsylvania,” Mr. Presler told Seen, Heard & Whispered Monday on Washington’s WMAL.
President Trump has said the country’s voter rolls are littered with noncitizens who should be ineligible to vote.
Homeland Security said it has identified 14,576 names on Pennsylvania’s public voter database that could be noncitizens.
DHS also spotted more than 190,000 questionable names on California’s rolls, 35,152 for New Jersey and 15,903 in Nevada.
Early Vote Action aims to register Republican voters in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Justice Jackson’s luck in love
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s first date was with the man who would become her husband — but she didn’t even know it was a date, at first.
She recalled the date in a conversation with Michelle Obama and the former first lady’s podcast, “IMO.”
Justice Jackson and her future husband, Patrick Jackson, were students at Harvard University at the time. She recalled that he picked her up and they went for a walk, but she said it wasn’t clear it was a date.
“I’ve never been on one. I hoped so because he was cute,” she recalled. But the future surgeon didn’t make a move, so she became “furious.”
They later had dinner at his home and watched a movie, and he tried to put his arm around her.
“I jump up and I say, ’No,’ because I had convinced myself that he didn’t like me,” Justice Jackson, 55, told Mrs. Obama.
“I figured he had a whole day to show some affection. He had not done so, and so he was now just trying to take advantage of me as far as I was concerned,” she said. “I thought, ’This is crazy,’ so I jumped up and I said, ’No,’ and he said, ’What is wrong?’ and he stood up, and I said, ’I just don’t want to be hurt,’ and he said, ’Ketanji, I will never hurt you; I love you.’”
The movie they watched was “Sea of Love” with Al Pacino.
The couple celebrated their 30th anniversary this year.
