OPINION:
I was especially struck by the endorsement of Graham Platner by Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vermont independent, a “progressive” who caucuses with Democrats.
Mr. Sanders told Maine voters that if Mr. Platner became their senator, the man would “change the world.” How, exactly, would a former Nazi sympathizer who curses Jewish opinion, tells rape victims that they bear some blame for their own assaults, texts women sexually suggestive messages and wishes dead a fellow Marine do that?
Mr. Platner is like the antagonist in the 1963 classic “My Boyfriend’s Back,” sung by The Angels. In the refrain between verses one and two, they sing: “Hey, he knows what you been tryin’/And he knows that you been lyin.’”
Mr. Sanders and his Democratic allies are trying to elect anyone —even a man who lied about a Nazi tattoo — to become one of the world’s greatest deliberators.
Yeah, that’ll track as standards and values go the way of the Dodo bird.
