New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is being removed from the roster indefinitely after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right first rib, which requires rest and limited activity.

Judge underwent a CT scan Thursday, and an MRI during the week, after presenting with a bone bruise that caused right shoulder pain.

Dr. Gregory Pearl, a vascular surgery specialist in Dallas, was also consulted.

Judge was out of the lineup for three straight games before the diagnosis was confirmed. He is scheduled for re-evaluation after additional imaging in four to six weeks, and is expected to return at some point this season.

It’s not the first time Judge has dealt with this type of injury; he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in a right rib in March 2020. It stemmed from a diving play in September 2019, but he avoided missing game time due to the pandemic-shortened season.

The three-time AL MVP is hitting .248 with 17 home runs and 38 RBIs this season, hitting just one home run in his last 18 games since May 10.
