OPINION:
Rep. Jamie Raskin, Maryland Democrat, talked recently about the separation of church and state. Ironically, he did so while speaking about Islam, which is “church” and state all in one, and is therefore antithetical to the Constitution.
If Mr. Raskin is so concerned about the separation of church and state as it is described in a letter by Thomas Jefferson in an 1802 letter, how about the authority of James Madison in Federalist Paper 49? The latter affirms that government in a constitutional republic would be restricted by the limitations written into the Constitution.
Where is the permission for government to act upon the right to bear arms in the Constitution? Oh, there is none. In fact, there is a direct prohibition to infringe on the people’s right to bears arms, Mr. Raskin.
