Former HGTV “Fixer Upper” star Joanna Gaines jokingly apologizes to husband Chip for turning their five children into homebodies in the summer issue of the family’s lifestyle magazine Magnolia Journal, news outlets report.

In the quarterly magazine’s introduction, she says she is “likely to blame” for the family’s preference to stay home rather than travel.

Ms. Gaines, 48, describes their home in Waco, Texas, as the place where the family recharges and feels most free, calling their approach a “staycation state of mind.”

She wonders lightheartedly whether the family’s comfort at home might limit their ability to thrive in the wider world. But she concludes that the family’s most meaningful moments have come not from big trips or splashy plans, but from quiet, ordinary days spent together at home.

Mr. Gaines, 51, in his note reflects on the aging process, the passage of time and what is truly worth chasing in life.

The Gaineses became household names with “Fixer Upper,” which ended in 2019. The home remodeling/decorating team launched their Magnolia Network in 2020, celebrating the warmth of home life that Ms. Gaines says her family lives out year-round.
