OPINION:
It is tragic that President Trump spends so much time and energy viciously attacking anyone who disagrees with him (“Takeaways from Tuesday’s primaries: Massie’s loss leaves no doubt about Trump’s power over the GOP,” Web, May 20).
This is not the essence of democracy, which requires civilized debate and acknowledges the right of people to hold their own opinions.
Mr. Trump is not a king or emperor. His is an elected leader who should listen to and acknowledge dissenting voices instead of seeking to forever muzzle them — especially when his illegal and unprovoked war in Iran is destroying the American and global economies.
Rep. Thomas Massie and other patriots will end up forming their own party and/or ally with Democrats. They will not be stopped by Mr. Trump’s or AIPAC’s myopic and immature antics.
The Republicans will find out the hard way in November what happens when you callously alienate and betray millions of your supporters.
Sincerely,
