Jurors began deliberations Tuesday in Britain to determine whether actor and comedian Russell Brand is guilty of rape and sexual assault.

A verdict won’t be handed down until after Judge Joel Bennathan sends jurors home at 4 p.m., according to Deadline. They will reconvene Wednesday morning.

Prosecutors and Mr. Brand’s defense have presented evidence and arguments for three weeks, according to The Associated Press.

Mr. Brand, 51, pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault related to alleged incidents involving six women between 1999 and 2009.

Prosecutors have argued that Mr. Brand is a “sexual predator.” Mr. Brand, maintaining his innocence, said in an appearance on the stand last Wednesday that “consent is fundamental, essential, necessary” and is in some ways “more important than sex itself.”

After making appearances in the 2008 film “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and 2010 spinoff “Get Him to the Greek,” as well as being briefly married to pop star Katy Perry, Mr. Brand moved to Florida and became a born-again Christian.
