The Democratic Socialists of America is celebrating widespread wins across the U.S. after its candidates racked up more than 50 election victories.

In a social media post, the largest socialist organization in America said that the midterm elections “prove socialism can win in the U.S.”

“Workers deserve more and a reality where all of us live with dignity and hope is closer than we think,” DSA said Wednesday. “The job’s not done, though. Tomorrow, we continue organizing, fighting, and winning for the working class!”

At the New York City-DSA Astoria watch party, co-chair Gustavo Gordillo said the night would send the largest bloc of socialists to Congress in U.S. history, adding that “2028 is ours for the taking.”

He credited New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a socialist, with giving Democrats such as Texas Senate winner James Talarico credibility on an economic populist agenda.

Candidates backed by the DSA won five new U.S. House seats in New York, Colorado, Michigan and Pennsylvania, and DSA member Janeese Lewis George was elected mayor of the District of Columbia.

DSA-backed candidates also won state, county and local offices on Tuesday.

The Tampa DSA chapter said Ashley Herrmann’s election win made her the first socialist elected to the Florida Legislature in more than a century.
