Culture and politics site Salon informed readers on Thursday that it is ceasing operations effective immediately.
The site, which also turned 31 on the same day as its statement, wrote that “it’s difficult to find the right words for the end of something that has meant so much to so many people.”
The left-leaning Salon was created in 1995 by a group of journalists, including original editor-in-chief David Talbot. In November 2023, the site was sold to Find.co, a privately held media company.

“The business realities of independent digital journalism have changed profoundly over the years,” the company wrote in its parting message. “After careful consideration, we have reached the difficult decision that our publishing model is no longer sustainable.”
“Thank you for being part of our story. It has been an extraordinary privilege,” the statement concluded.
