After the blue wave swept elections on Tuesday, “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart is criticizing the old guard of Democratic leadership, saying it’s time to leave.

On his podcast, “The Weekly Show,” Mr. Stewart said that with the fresh blue blood coming into Congress, senior party leadership needs to consider retiring.

“Someone has to meet this moment, and they have got to show — and this moment is not, ‘Oh, we get to impeach everybody,’ like, f—- that,” Mr. Stewart said on the episode that aired Thursday. “You have an opportunity to actually govern. Do it. Take it. And one of the first things you need to do is remove that system of seniority from Democratic politics.

“It is a bull—— system, and it needs to go. And they’re, by the way, they’re already, like, ‘Chuck Schumer deserves a lot of credit for putting together this —,’ ‘Chuck Schumer deserves —.’ Chuck Schumer fought tooth and nail against half of these f——— people! And even if he didn’t, he does not understand the urgency of the moment and what the future demands. I truly believe that.”

Democrats retook majorities in the House and Senate.

Mr. Stewart is not the only celebrity criticizing Democratic leadership. Actor Mark Ruffalo, a staunch Democratic supporter and Trump critic, promoted a petition to remove Hakeem Jeffries as the Democratic House leader. The petition has more than 800,000 signatures as of press time.

“Hakeem Jeffries is simply not the right choice. We believe the Speaker should represent the Democratic voters, not just the Democratic establishment,” the petition reads.

On Thursday, pollster John Zogby predicted that the next president will be a “younger”  Washington outsider.

“I think you’re looking at someone who is neither tied to this administration nor to the current Democratic leadership,” he said. “Someone will rise up from the country like a newly reelected governor.”
