NBA history has a hefty price tag. A game-worn Michael Jordan jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals fetched $14 million on the open market, Hunt Auctions announced on Monday morning.

It is believed to be the steepest price ever paid for a piece of basketball memorabilia.

The autographed red road jersey was used during Game 2 of the Chicago Bulls’ matchup against the Utah Jazz. Chicago went on to win the series in six games. It was the sixth and final championship of Jordan’s illustrious career.

The jersey now belongs to Ron Firman, a real estate investor from Miami, according to Hunt Auctions.

“While Michael Jordan’s importance within the sports memorabilia marketplace has long been established, it has now escalated to an elite class more typically reserved for iconic works of art,” said Davis Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions. “We are very pleased to have been able to facilitate this historic sale, which serves as another benchmark for our industry.”

It is still not the most expensive jersey in history, though. That honor belongs to the jersey that Babe Ruth wore when he famously called his shot before a home run against the Chicago Cubs in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series. It fetched more than $24 million in 2024.
