The 119-year-old Plaza Hotel in Manhattan once owned by President Trump will close for at least four years in January so its facade can be restored.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, which runs the New York landmark, said in a release Wednesday that operations will cease during the facade work.

The company did not say exactly what on the facade needed touching up or how much the restoration work is expected to cost. The hotel has 282 guest rooms and 181 condominiums, according to WNBC.

The condominium owners at the hotel have been aware of the planned closure for months, broker Kane Manera, who has two penthouses listed at the hotel, told the New York Post.

Michael Passaro, who works for luxury real estate firm Douglas Elliman, told the Post that the condominium owners he works with “confirmed with the doorman and management that residents will continue to live there.”

The residents have a separate entrance to the building cut off from the hotel portion of the building.

The Plaza Hotel has been featured on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978 and was owned by Mr. Trump from 1988-95.

The movie “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” in which Mr. Trump made a cameo pointing child star Macaulay Culkin in the right direction, began filming at the hotel in December 1991 ahead of its 1992 release, according to the hotel website.

Mr. Trump was wed to his second wife, Marla Maples, at the hotel’s ballroom in December 1993.

At the time he bought it at auction, Mr. Trump said the hotel was “not just a building, it’s the ultimate work of art,” as quoted on the Trump Organization website.
