Auburn has dismissed defensive linebacker Xavier Atkins from its football team, according to multiple reports.

Coach Alex Golesh suspended Atkins for Saturday’s game against Georgia, but has not publicly disclosed a reason for the punishment.

Golesh told reporters on Monday that the program was “still working through” Atkins’ situation, noting that the matter would be handled “in-house.”

Atkins appeared to confirm his departure on social media.

“I have nothing but respect Auburn University and will continue to support my teammates this season,” he said Tuesday morning on social media. “My focus is on my health, my family, and on finishing up the academic semester strong, and I’ll be entering the transfer portal at the appropriate time.”

The 21-year-old was an All-SEC selection for the Tigers last season. He recorded 84 tackles, nine sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception in 2025 after transferring from LSU. The Houston native was on a similar trajectory this year with 37 tackles, three sacks and another interception through five games.

Auburn faces No. 18 LSU on Saturday afternoon.
