OPINION:
I always read Cal Thomas’ pieces with interest and usually agree with his position on the issues of the day (“Republicans should remind voters why they rejected Democrats,” Web, Oct. 19).
I suspect that most of Mr. Thomas’ regular readers are, like me, well aware that he finds the president’s personality traits very annoying, but that he usually agrees with the president’s policies and points to the administration’ successes.
Our nation is now under assault by internal political forces seeking to destroy and redefine our country’s founding principles. And at this critical time for our country, our president is under constant malicious criticism by many in the mainstream media, not to mention his political enemies.

In a bit of irony, I believe that it is the president’s personality traits — detested by Mr. Thomas — that give our president the moral character to withstand all this criticism yet deal with the many challenges facing him and our country.
I am grateful that Donald Trump is our president, especially when I think about the fact that most men of his age, fame and wealth are retired and enjoying the fruits of their labor.
That he is not doing the same says to me that he is in office because he truly loves this country and is seeking the very best for all of its citizens.
