OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who was killed in the ill-fated submarine project Titan that imploded during a dive to see the Titanic’s remains in 2023, is being accused by a friend of wanting to become a part of “Titanic mythology.”
Karl Stanley, a commercial submersible expert, made the accusation in the new book “Submersed: Wonder, Obsession and Murder in the World of Amateur Submarines,” published Tuesday.
“[Rush’s] ego was so big,” Mr. Stanley told Matthew Gavin Frank, the book’s author. “He was willing to die and kill to be the pivotal character of this story. He wanted to go [die] at the wreck [of the Titanic]. … He didn’t just murder four wealthy people and get paid a cool mill to do it — they are all part of the Titanic mythology.”
