Denver Nuggets fans booed their team during Saturday’s home opener as they trailed the visiting New Orleans Pelicans 53-30 in the second quarter. Nuggets star Nikola Jokic returned the favor after leading a come-from-behind victory in overtime.

“We got booed at our first home game, and I think those fans who booed us, they don’t need to come anymore,” Jokic said in his postgame press conference. “If you guys follow us, you know that we never quit and we’ve come back from much worse situations. So if they ask me, they are not welcome anymore.”

The three-time MVP continued his dominant reign on Saturday with a triple-double. He scored 35 points, adding 15 rebounds, 10 assists, three blocks and a pair of steals in the stat-stuffing effort.

But Denver struggled through the first half as a team, trailing by 16 at halftime.

“It was just, you know, nothing goes your way, they’re making shots and you’re not making shots,” Jokic said. “It was just bad energy, and it needs a couple of minutes to go by so you can get out of it.”

Nuggets fans have a shot to regain the star’s favor when the squad returns to Ball Arena for another home game on Monday night against the Golden State Warriors.
