Sunny Hostin of “The View” called Jay-Z’s self-appointment as the star of the Super Bowl halftime show a “valid choice,” but she also has some concerns to share with the billionaire rapper and business mogul.

During Wednesday’s episode, Hostin and the other panelists discussed Jay-Z’s Roc Nation production company taking creative control of the halftime show in 2019, noting that “it was on the backs of the protests, of the social justice initiative, on the backs of the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick.”

And while Hostin believes the rapper has exacted some change upon the league, she said that when she looks at the NFL today, she sees “70% Black players, 9.4% Black coaches, only three Black head coaches. I also see that there are no Black owners of any NFL team. No majority owner.”

She continued, “When I look at that, I think, Jay-Z, he’s become a billionaire; he’s an icon. You can do well, but also do good. I think there’s more work for him to do within the NFL.”

Hostin said later during the panel’s discussion, “There needs to be some institutional change within the NFL, and I think he’s in a great position to do more.”

She did not mention her statistical source in the claims she made about the number of Black players within the league, but in the 2026 season, there are no Black majority team owners and three Black head coaches.
