Former NBA MVP and broadcaster Charles Barkley is speaking out against LeBron James, who recently drew ire for seemingly practicing his golf swing during the national anthem.
During the Philadelphia 76ers season opener against the New York Knicks on Oct. 20, James, who is new to the 76ers this season, was seen mimicking a golf swing while the anthem was being sung. He also appeared to be practicing the motion for his basketball shot.
After President Trump weighed in, calling James a “total disgrace” on Oct. 22, Barkley addressed the situation Wednesday on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“I don’t pay what President Trump says any attention, first and foremost, at all,” Barkley said. “But I thought that was very disrespectful, practicing your golf swing in the middle of the anthem. I always stand for the anthem. I just think it’s important. We live in the greatest country ever where you can always protest, but I think you have to be very careful with the anthem.”
James has responded to Mr. Trump’s criticism, saying, “It must be a slow news day at the office.”
