Will Democrats win control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections? Washington Times’ Tim Constantine forecasts the House and the Senate, explains why the president’s party typically loses seats, and walks through the closest Senate battlegrounds ahead of Tuesday’s vote.

The Democrats are going to take control of the House of Representatives, and I’m going to tell you: if there had never been a war in Iran, if prices of gas and everything else hadn’t gone sky-high, the Democrats were still going to win the House of Representatives. It happens all the time. When the party in control is the same party as the president, that party loses two years into the president’s term. Always happens. It happened to Obama, happened to Biden, happened to Trump the first time around. It always happens. There shouldn’t be any surprise there. The only question is how big of a cushion will the Democrats have in what has been a very tight majority for the Republicans? Will the Democrats have a big majority or a tight one?
