President Trump will no longer attend the Georgia-Alabama college football game on Saturday, saying first responders must focus on Hurricane Isaias as it barrels toward the Gulf Coast.
Mr. Trump, writing on social media, said given the path of the storm, which is gaining strength, “it is important to have our wonderful First Responders, Law Enforcement, and others, focused on that Storm, and in no way be thinking about the safety, or presence, of the President of the United States, ME!”
The game is a major clash between top-ranked teams in the Southeastern Conference, or SEC. Alabama is hosting, and Mr. Trump loves to attend college football games where he usually gets a warm reception.

The hurricane strengthened to a Category 3 storm and could batter the Florida panhandle and Alabama, putting the game in Tuscaloosa in doubt.
“Hopefully, the Game will go on despite the weather! I will be visiting both of those Teams at a later date,” Mr. Trump said.
Mr. Trump said he still planned to travel to Tennessee for a rally to support GOP House candidates, Sen. Bill Hagerty and Sen. Marsha Blackburn, who is running for governor.
The president said Ms. Blackburn will “go down as one of the most impactful Governors in the State’s History.”
