Twenty-five years later, the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, are still remembered as among the most important historic events in many Americans’ lives.
The attacks began at 8:46 a.m., when hijacked American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Seventeen minutes later, at 9:03 a.m., hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South Tower.
Nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners that morning. Two were flown into the Twin Towers in New York.
The South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m., followed by the North Tower at 10:28 a.m.
