OPINION:
Remember the biblical quote, “[T]he love of money is the root of all evil”? The lack of money appears to be an alternate evil root.
I refer here to our youthful socialist, university-educated class. They are cash-strapped because of costs incurred during that privileged education and they blame their lack of present capital and bleak future prospects on capitalism. It’s a system they have never actually studied and know very little about, so it is easy to blame.
These young people are bright green with envy of those who have succeeded and are “rich” despite having overcome (or benefitted from, according to them) the “evils” of capitalism. These socialists are ready to torch the most successful country in human history in favor of a repeatedly failed system that they also haven’t studied and know very little about.
I would like to know why they believe they would be better off under socialism, rather than facing the reality that they are to blame for their difficulties. This is a mystery. They would do well to remember that Karl Marx himself was an envious and impoverished ne’er-do-well who couldn’t even provide for his own children (four of whom died young as a result of the family’s extreme poverty and two others who survived into adulthood only to commit suicide as adults).
Today’s “democratic socialists” (a true contradiction in terms) should also remember that the original meaning of utopia in Greek is “no place.” The Greeks knew that no such place can ever exist.
We can only hope the ignorant Democratic Socialists of America uprising will be smashed in November by voters with some historical knowledge, honesty, humility and common sense.
