Montgomery County police on Thursday detained a student at Col. Zadok Magruder High School in Derwood on assault and weapons charges.
Officers went to the school at about 8:47 a.m. after security personnel reported two weapons incidents. The security personnel were investigating a student with a BB gun and found that another student had a knife, police said in a release.
Police said the 15-year-old male student accused of having a BB gun assaulted a school administrator and a school security officer during the investigation. The police department did not specify whether the student used the BB gun to commit assault.
Officers took the 15-year-old into custody after being authorized by the state Department of Juvenile Services.
The student, whom police did not name, faces charges of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds and disruption of a school day.
The student who had the knife will be disciplined through the school system, police said.
During the investigation of the two incidents, Magruder was put into hold status, meaning the hallways were cleared and students stayed in classrooms as instruction continued, according to Bethesda Today.
The hold was lifted and normal operations resumed at Magruder after 10 a.m., police posted on social media.
