The D.C. Fire and EMS Department took a worker to the hospital Monday after he was injured while working on scaffolding around the White House’s North Portico.
The worker, whom fire officials did not publicly identify, suffered minor injuries while on the scaffolding, according to WJLA-TV. Officials have not specified the nature of the injuries or how they occurred.
To get him to the hospital, crews used a ground ladder and a Stokes basket to get him down from the scaffolding. Officials said the man is expected to survive, according to WUSA-TV.
Workers finished taking down the scaffolding, put up as part of restoration work on the White House’s front-facing columns, on Tuesday, according to The Associated Press.
Overall restoration work on the North Portico, first started in June on orders from President Trump, is expected to end later this month prior to an official state visit to Washington by Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to the AP.
