President Trump said Wednesday that he’ll hit the campaign trail for Republican candidates in 35 races before the midterm elections, vowing to drastically increase his role in getting GOP candidates elected.
With just 55 days left until November’s midterm election, Mr. Trump has largely stayed on the sidelines and has done little campaigning for candidates.
“They might be winning by a little or losing by a little or tied. We can win every one of those races, but I’m going to go to every one of those states for congressmen and senators,” he said at the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas.
The president said he’ll hold rallies and tele-rallies to support candidates in swing races, vowing to fill big arenas with voters.
Last week Mr. Trump promised to use his super PAC, MAGA Inc., which boasts a war chest of more than $400 million, to boost Republican candidates in tight races.
Mr. Trump said Texas is one of the states he plans to visit before Election Day to support Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton. He joked that he’ll be in Texas so much that residents will get tired of seeing him.
He also took jabs at Mr. Paxton’s appearance, repeating jokes he’s made several times in recent weeks about the Texas attorney general.
“You may not like the way he looks,” Mr. Trump said, quickly adding that he is “the single greatest attorney general” in Texas history.
