NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Jurors have found a New Jersey man guilty of gunning down a teacher in front of a police detective.
The panel convicted 45-year-old Andre Higgs, of Watchung, of murder in the death of 27-year-old Latrena May in 2015. Higgs also was convicted of weapons charges.
Prosecutors say Higgs shot May three times on the porch of her East Orange home after she had flagged down a police car. The detective returned fire, wounding Higgs in the legs.
The couple had a daughter.
Higgs faces at least 30 years in prison when he’s sentenced.
