BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say they’re now going after a first-degree murder charge for a Buckeye woman accused of fatally stabbing her 5-month-old son.
Sgt. Jason Weeks said on Wednesday that authorities are also seeking a felony child abuse and disorderly conduct charges against 29-year-old Andrea Portillo. Portillo was originally facing second-degree murder charges.
A police probable cause statement released Tuesday also said officers responding to a 911 call Monday arrived to find the boy’s grandmother holding him and screaming, while Portillo was covered in blood as she stood behind the grandmother.
According to the police statement, the boy had multiple stab wounds to the neck and his 3-year-old sister told detectives that her mother cut the baby’s neck.
